Student Assistant (Grid-Interactive Buildings)

Berkeley Lab - California - Berkeley Lab's Building Technologies and Urban Systems Division (BTUS) is looking for a Student Assistant to join their Windows & Envelope Materials Group, focusing on Grid-Interactive Buildings! In this role, you will support in development and maintenance of Python modules for interfacing, control and simulation of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) and various building components (e.g. dynamic facades, HVAC system,..). What You Will Do: Assist with developing and maintaining Python modules to support research projects. Document developments with version control and unit tests. Develop and maintain Python-Jupyter notebooks to assist with processing and analyzing data. Assist in the development of data acquisition systems using time-series databases. Work closely with members of the scientific, technical, and administrative staff. What is Required: Must be currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate academic program. Experience with Python and common Python packages such as Pandas, Numpy, and Matplotlib. Experience with software development and databases such as MySQL, MongoDB, and BTrDB. Familiarity with Linux based OS and publication platforms such as GitHub and BitBucket. Strong written and oral communication skills. Notes: This is part time, non-exempt from overtime pay (hourly paid), temporary Student appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs. This position may not exceed 20 hours per week during the academic term and up to 40 hours per work during academic breaks. Salary will be predetermined based on student step rates. Due to COVID-19, this position will be performed remotely but limited to individuals currently residing in the United States.
