College Park, MD - Position title: Manager, Production Control Position #: 106539 This position is a working management role with responsibility for the Production Control unit within the Division of Information Technology (DIT) at the University of Maryland, College Park. Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: designs and implements policies and procedures for the effective control of batch and on-line production on the mainframe and distributed systems for the University community; formulates procedures for the deployment of programs and modules from test environments to the production arena; develops processes consistent with audit requirements for the granting of mainframe access to online and other production resources; documents and maintains these procedures for the Production Control unit; and, represents the Production Control unit on projects and other coordinated activities within the Division of Information Technology and throughout the university; Must be willing, able, and available to participate in a regular on-call rotation, work occasional off-hours, and respond to emergencies when the need arises. Minimum qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience 5-7 years of dedicated work and responsibilities within a Production Control unit. 5-7 years of dedicated responsibility for job schedule creation, planning and troubleshooting. Knowledge, skills, abilities: In-depth knowledge of JCL, CA-Scheduler, CA-Dispatch, CA-Librarian, HTML In-depth knowledge of computer operations procedures; RACF procedures; TSO editor and mainframe printing hardware, software and procedures. Basic knowledge of MVS operating systems, Datacom and Oracle database systems, Cobol and Ideal programming languages. Basic knowledge of non-mainframe operating systems. Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to instruct and train subordinates as well as interact with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Ability to work and learn independent of direct supervision. Ability to understand written and verbal program specifications and be able to convert them into appropriate program languages. Ability to analyze computerized codes, instructions and logs in order to troubleshoot for errors. Additional information: this position does not provide sponsorship for visas. Physical demands: sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
