Rogers Ready Mix / Rogers Concrete - Cedar Rapids, IA - General Job Duties Safely and efficiently drives the dump truck to necessary locations, all while maintaining open communication with the supervisory team. Essential Job Duties Driver Responsibilities Communicates with Dispatcher to receive instructions via 2-way radio in truck and direct-line telephone in yard Works with customers to obtain adequate vehicle access and unloads materials Hauls materials from location to location Assists in loading and unloading materials Drivers are required to observe standard safety practices when operating all trucks Transporting crushed rock, sand, and gravel to and from specified locations Verifying the types of materials being transported and ensuring that they do not exceed weight restrictions Ensuring that the materials are loaded correctly onto the dump truck Complete hauling forms and submit daily Vehicle Maintenance Performs pre-trip vehicle safety inspection and reports vehicle condition at beginning and end of each shift Perform daily housekeeping in truck cab and maintenance of equipment, including fluid levels and tire pressure Greases the dump truck every 5,000 miles Inspects the dump truck before and after every trip, which includes checking the oil, gas and water levels as well as the lights and tires Promptly reporting any accidents, injuries or mechanical faults to management Performs regular maintenance to ensure that the truck is in good working order Maintains accurate driver logs Fuels vehicle as needed May assist mechanics in vehicle repair Other Maintains drivers’ daily reports as required by DOT and Company regulations Performs other duties as instructed by supervisor Recognizes surroundings and practice traffic awareness to maintain a safe environment Communicates with the customer to understand requirements of the job and deal with safety concerns Education & Experience Requirements Education: High School Diploma or GED Candidate must pass a pre-employment drug screen Must have a valid DOT physical exam card An MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) is required A Class A or Class B commercial driver’s license with an air brake endorsement is preferred, but we are open to training the right person in helping them get their CDL (must have CDL permit in this case to be considered) Manual transmission experience preferred A clean driving record is required Language Requirements The primary language of Rogers Concrete is English. Excellent communication skills are defined as the ability to: Actively listen for total comprehension Ask questions that enhance the understanding of a certain topic Relay information and/or instruction in a descriptive and understandable fashion in both written and verbal forms Reasoning Requirements Thorough understanding of practices involved in the use of various types of heavy equipment Thorough understanding of maintenance and basic repairs associated with heavy equipment Thorough understanding of safety rules and the ability to safely operate machinery Superior skill operating assigned equipment safely and efficiently Physical Requirements Must be able to physically operate heavy equipment Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and stand to operate and repair heavy equipment Must be able to work in all types of weather, including extremely hot and extremely cold temperatures Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times Employment Status This is a full-time position, but hours may vary based on weather conditions and workload for projects. We will also accept part-time applicants for this position.
