Launched in 1994, Deerfield Management Company is an investment firm dedicated to advancing healthcare through information, investment, drug discovery and development, and philanthropy – all toward the end goal of cures for disease, improved quality of life and reduced cost of care. 3DC plays a critical role in progressing early-stage therapeutics from scientific discovery through preclinical proof of concept and into the clinic, via design and execution of relevant experiments. 3DC partners closely with principal investigators in Deerfield’s collaboration network of academic institutions, corporations and CRO partners to provide deep functional expertise and experience across key disciplines. The 3DC Gene Therapy Program Lead is a key role within the innovative 3DC operating model, supporting the oversight and execution of the gene therapy portfolio. The Gene Therapy Program Lead will facilitate the development of project plans and budgets, partnering with 3DC, a variety of stakeholders within the Deerfield gene therapy ecosystem, as well as the Principal Investigator at the relevant academic institution. The Gene Therapy Program Lead will also drive the execution of the gene therapy portfolio by managing and overseeing the project teams, including key vendors. The Gene Therapy Program Lead will support and coordinate appropriate data packages for each key decision point. Finally, the Gene Therapy Program Lead will provide regular project status reports and plans to key stakeholders. Responsibilities Key Responsibilities Partner with 3DC and other stakeholders in Deerfield and Deerfield private portfolio companies to define and implement processes related to Gene Therapy project review/selection, project plan and budget development and project execution and oversight. Work with 3DC and other stakeholders in Deerfield and Deerfield private portfolio companies to define experimental design and support the execution of multiple gene therapy projects across Deerfield’s academic network. Oversee gene therapy project teams and drive execution of the project plan to meet timelines and budget. Provide regular portfolio reports (status, key issues, upcoming milestones, timeline and budget actuals vs plan, etc.) for internal 3DC and Deerfield stakeholders Identify critical project issues and risks and provide timely communication to senior leadership. Resolve project issues by working with team members, project customers, and others as appropriate. Partner closely with Deerfield Investment Leads to ensure compilation of project data package and related materials (IP assessment, clinical and regulatory strategy, commercial assessment) at each decision point, and to present a robust recommendation to the Deerfield investment team for decision. Qualifications Qualifications Bachelor’s or advanced degree in life sciences, with 5+ years’ experience within the field of gene therapy pre-clinical development, including 3+ years’ direct project management experience. Demonstrated understanding of gene therapy preclinical development process preferred. Preferred experience with AAV gene replacement. Ability to communicate (written and verbal) with impact to provide appropriate context, articulate views and drive clarity. Ability to assess critical issues and needs and define fit-for-purpose solutions to address. Ability to operate across a diverse ecosystem; displays agility and pragmatism in managing across a highly heterogeneous environment.
