Berkeley Lab - California - (LBNL) has multiple openings for Electronics Engineer Technologist to join the team. The electronics technician position provides advanced technical support of a variety of electronics systems. Test, evaluate, troubleshoot, repair and maintain complex electronic and electro-mechanical equipment and systems with the use of technological skills, scientific principles and mathematics. This position will be hired at a level commensurate with the business needs, and skills, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidates. What You Will Do: Read and interpret schematics, sketches, parts lists, component layout diagrams, assembly, maintenance, calibration and operating manuals. Perform general troubleshooting, repair and calibration of complex electronics or electro-mechanical circuits, on commercial and custom built equipment, instruments and systems to component level applying a high degree of technical creativity, innovation, expertise and judgement. Run system, board and component level diagnostic routines on complex systems by following general procedures. Plan work methods, determine type of tests, select test equipment, and analyze test results to assure performance compliance with technical specifications. Perform routine maintenance, repair and calibration of complex electronics or electro-mechanical circuits, mechanisms, equipment, instruments and systems, by applying technical concepts that requires both standard and unique methods to ensure optimum functioning of equipment. Operate a variety of hand, power and machine tools, complex electronics systems and test equipment. Assist in the design of general electronics equipment or systems; provide design details and recommend modifications to engineering designs as required. Generate rough sketches and drawings of electronic equipment to communicate the modifications and designs. What is Required: AA Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology, or the equivalent in formal military or industrial training and at least three years' experience working in the electronics field. Substantial understanding of electronics theory, electro-mechanical, scientific principles, and mathematics. Knowledge and ability to use complex test equipment, diagnostic routines and procedures and appropriate hand, and power tools of the trade. Ability to correctly interpret complex schematics, and assembly, calibration, maintenance and operating manuals. Ability to safely operate a variety of electronics test equipment including oscilloscopes, digital and analog multimeters, function generators and pulse generators. Work experience performing general troubleshooting, repair and calibration of complex electronics. Ability to exercise independent judgment to successfully accomplish assignments. General knowledge of equipment design procedures and techniques. General personal computer application skills with spreadsheets, databases and word processors. Additional Desired Qualifications: Broad knowledge of high voltage and high current power supplies and RF systems. General electronics drafting and design-documentation skills desired. Knowledge of NFPA 70E electrical safety work practices. The posting shall remain open until the position is filled. Note: This is a full-time career appointment.
