City of Altamonte Springs - Altamonte Springs, FL - Position Function: The City Paralegal provides assistance to the Deputy City Attorney in the performance of legal research, investigation of facts, preparation of legal documents to include legal memoranda, pleadings, briefs, ordinances, resolutions, leases, contracts and other documents as assigned, and filing pleadings and other documents in the appropriate venue. Hiring Range: $45,704/yr. - $52,560/yr. * depending on qualifications Tasks/Duties: Provide assistance to the Deputy City Attorney including, but not limited to preparation of legal document drafts, responses to complaints, including filing pleadings in the appropriate court, correspondence, and any other assignments deemed necessary. Conduct statistical, documentational, and factual research for review by the Deputy City Attorney. Monitor and coordinate the production of documents and the progress of assigned cases. Keep track of all document filing due dates. Assist the Deputy City Attorney in the preparation and coordination of exhibits and witnesses during cases involving the City and complex legal proceedings. Assist Deputy City Attorney in review of contracts and legal documents to determine accuracy and conformance to established policies, standards, City Codes and Ordinances, and Florida and Federal laws. Locate and interview employees, witnesses and other persons who may be affiliated with a particular case or City legal matter. Perform legal research regarding inquiries put forth to the Deputy City Attorney. Drive to and from City work locations. Perform additional duties as assigned to include availability for emergency call-outs. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associate’s degree from an accredited institution in Paralegal Studies. Three (3) years of paralegal experience. Certified Legal Assistant (CLA) Certification. One (1) year experience filing legal documents and pleadings with State and Federal Courts. Valid driver license. Must obtain a Florida driver license within thirty (30) days of employment. PREFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Professional experience with local government or public sector entities. CJIS/FDLE Certification. Must be obtained within three (3) months of employment. If there is a right place in all of the Orlando metropolitan area, Altamonte Springs is it.
