Western State Hospital is seeking a Clinical Psychologist to provide a full range of psychological services to individuals with serious mental disorders in an inpatient setting. The role of the clinical psychologist is to provide psychological assessments, diagnostic interviewing, forensic evaluations (e.g., trial competency and sanity) and court testimony (as needed), behavioral interventions, group and individual psychotherapy, supervision of paraprofessional staff, consultations, oversight of behavioral programs, and staff training. As a training site for many disciplines, opportunities exist to supervise post-doctoral fellows, clinical psychology graduate students, undergraduate psychology students, and other trainees. The clinical psychologist serves as an integral member of a multidisciplinary treatment team in a recovery-focused, trauma-informed care setting. There are plentiful opportunities for continuing education in forensics and other areas relevant to the delivery of psychological services. The successful candidate for this position may be asked to assist in a wide array of treatment settings throughout the facility prior to an anticipated expansion of the hospital, which is projected to be completed in 2021. Western State Hospital: Western State Hospital is a 246 bed, accredited, public, psychiatric hospital located in Staunton, Virginia where our new state of the art facility opened in November 2013. The hospital is currently undergoing an expansion, anticipated to be completed in 2021, which will include 56 additional beds. The successful candidate will join a staff of 17 experienced and highly skilled licensed clinical psychologists. Staunton is a vibrant town in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley within 30 minutes of major university towns. Minimum Qualifications Successful applicants must have a Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from a doctoral program accredited by the American Psychological Association by the first day of employment. Must be licensed (or license eligible) to practice clinical psychology in Virginia. Must have demonstrated experience in applying psychological assessments and intervention methods to individuals with serious mental disorders. Applicants must have knowledge of serious mental disorders, psychological assessment, and therapeutic interventions. Must have completed (or eligible to complete) the forensic evaluation training program for Virginia. Applicants must have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to function effectively as an integral member of a multidisciplinary treatment team. Salary is negotiable and the Commonwealth of Virginia has an excellent benefits package. The anticipated start date is negotiable. Preferred Qualifications Specialized education, training, and/or experience in forensic psychology and working in psychiatric settings.
