New Delhi: China’s Vivo, India’s second-largest smartphone maker, is in constant touch with the Indian government and relevant authorities on the issue of customs clearance at Indian ports, a top official said, adding that clearances for shipments for its local manufacturing operations were “improving”.“It is a continuous thing, and we are in touch with the government. There were hiccups, but things are improving. There was such a huge backlog since the lockdown but overall we are starting to get our shipments for manufacturing,” Nipun Marya, director-brand strategy at Vivo India, told ET.Marya said that the company hasn’t seen any decline in sales due to the prevailing anti-China sentiment in India, but said that the overall mobile phone business in the industry has received a “macro-economic shock” and “Vivo is not immune to this… I feel the mobile phone category should recover. So far, there has been a continuous growth since the lockdown was lifted.” Vivo secured the second spot in the smartphone segment with 17% share, trailing Chinese rival Xiaomi, which had a 30% share.
