Amid Covid, BJP readies to celebrate 7 years Modi govt | Economic Times

The BJP has planned a massive rural outreach on the occasion of completion of seven years of the Narendra Modi government with party workers carrying out social service work in 100,000 villages on May 30.The party’s national president JP Nadda had held a virtual meeting with the BJP’s state presidents on Monday and instructed them to select villages in their states. On May 30, party workers will visit these villages and distribute medical kits, masks, food and other things.Nadda gave a target of reaching out to 100,000 villages across the country. He also instructed that party workers should follow the Covid-19 protocol during their visits.Senior party leaders, ministers, MPs and MLAs have been asked to visit their specified locality and conduct social service. Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, the youth wing of the party, will organise blood donation camps in villages where BJP workers will donate blood.“We are targeting to reach out to 20,000 villages,” UP BJP president Swatantra Dev Singh told ET. “We have our network in every village and we have been working to offer help to the people.”Singh held a virtual meeting of all state party officials on Tuesday evening and instructed them to carry out work in their areas. Talking about the Covid-19 situation in the state, Singh said, “The situation currently is not like it was a month ago. With the regular work of the government and chief minister visiting districts, things have improved in UP.”With less than a year to go for the assembly election in the state, the village outreach holds significance for the BJP. The party suffered a setback in the recent rural body polls, and it will try hard to get its mojo back.Just as in UP, the BJP’s Bihar unit has also planned a social service programme in 20,000 villages across the state. “Apart from social service, our workers will also spread awareness about Covid-19 testing and vaccination,” Bihar BJP president Sanjay Jaiswal told ET. “There is a reluctance in villages in terms of Covid-19 testing and taking the vaccine. That’s why the village outreach is important.”Jaiswal said party leaders have been informed to be in their designated areas on Sunday morning and listen to the PM’s ‘Man Ki Baat’ address to the nation with the villagers.
