Berkeley Lab - California - The Computing Sciences (CS) Area at Berkeley Lab has a new opening for a Web Editorial Assistant to join its communications team. This position will assist the Web Coordinator with updating website content, responding to routine requests for CMS help and administration. What You Will Do: Edit and write web content under the supervision of the area web content coordinator. Monitor quality assurance scans and correct (or otherwise respond to) issues such as spelling, broken links, and formatting issues. Monitor ticketing system and respond to routine requests for: Modifying and creating content, which include selecting and sizing graphical assets. Creating new staff pages, modifying org charts, and other routine requests. Assisting other content creators with using the CMS. Additional Responsibilities as needed: Email newsletter editing and production. Manage YouTube/Vimeo accounts, which includes preparing and posting videos. Troubleshoot and test CMS and website issues. Prepare Google Analytics reports. What is Required: Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Experience using a moderately complex management system such as Drupal. Working knowledge of CSS & HTML. Excellent spelling, punctuation and grammar skills. Good customer service skills. Familiarity with web content best practices (accessibility, SEO, readability). Image selection and manipulation skills (e.g., resizing/cropping). Desired Qualifications: Experience creating, editing and producing content using a web quality assurance tool, such as link checkers. Experience working with customers via a ticketing system (such as Zendesk). Experience preparing and distributing communications via a broadcast email service (such as MailChimp or Constant Contact). Experience preparing and posting video to services such as YouTube and Vimeo. Notes: This is a temporary part-time, limited appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs. Cannot exceed 900 hours within a rolling 12-month period. This position may be subject to a background check. Any convictions will be evaluated to determine if they directly relate to the responsibilities and requirements of the position. This position will be remote initially, but limited to individuals residing in the United States tentatively until 2021 due to COVID-19.
