X-ray/EUV Optic Nanofabrication Postdoc

Berkeley Lab - California - Berkeley Lab’s has an opening for an X-ray/EUV Optic Nanofabrication Postdoc. The is a recognized world leader in the development of x-ray optics and EUV lithography technology. It has expansive collaborations with industrial entities and academic research laboratories globally. Its Nanofabrication group is seeking a recent Ph.D. graduate scientist/engineer to engage in projects fabricating x-ray/EUV diffractive optics and engineered nanostructures with 10-100 nm size critical features. We have a suite of nanofabrication capabilities such as plasma etching and evaporation deposition and have a partnership with the Molecular Foundry, which possesses state-of-the-art electron beam lithography, atomic layer deposition, direct self-assembly, and other technologies. We are seeking someone who can play a significant role in efforts to apply and extend these capabilities to smaller than 10 nm, high aspect ratio, 3-D geometry, and a variety of materials. What You Will Do: Carry out original basic research in nanopatterning and nanofabrication primarily based on state-of-the-art electron beam lithography for areas including complex diffractive optics, material research, semiconductor lithography research, and astrophysics. Fabricate diffractive optics and nanostructures for x-ray applications and EUV lithography R&D. Collaborate and work with researchers and engineers from different disciplines to develop solutions that meet complicated project requirements. Explore new application areas of nanofabrication relevant to our applications. Participate in the nanofabrication laboratory operation. Prepare research publications, and communicate results at professional meetings. What is Required: Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Material Science or a related field. Publication record that demonstrates extensive knowledge and experience with electron beam lithography, atomic layer deposition, electroplating, plasma etching, direct self-assembly, and/or other nanofabrication science and technology. Strong interest in diffractive optics. High self-motivation and independence Assertive and can take ownership of projects Ability to work effectively within a team and with various levels of internal and external users and staff. Well-developed oral and written communication skills Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to manage competing priorities, provide quality work within tight time constraints, and deliver projects on schedule. Strong sense of safety culture. Requested Application Materials: Statement of research experience (1 page) Notes: This is a full-time, 1-year, postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds, and ongoing operational needs. Salary for Postdoctoral positions depends on years of experience post-degree. Salary will be predetermined based on postdoctoral step rates. This position may be subject to a background check. Any convictions will be evaluated to determine if they directly relate to the responsibilities and requirements of the position. Having a conviction history will not automatically disqualify an applicant from being considered for employment. Berkeley Lab is committed to and strives to hire individuals from different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives who share these same values and commitments. * Work will be primarily performed at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA.
