REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION – Duties to be performed shall include, but not be limited to the following: Assists with or administers entirely, resident’s personal care – bathes, shampoos hair, combs hair, gives nail care, dresses, feeds, passes and empties bedpans. Assists residents to walk. Answers residents call lights. Helps or transfers residents into and out of beds and chairs. Transports residents when necessary. Make beds, distributes linen, and collects soiled linen. Keeps work rooms, linen closets or carts clean and tidy. Keeps equipment clean. Tidies bedside tables and furniture and bathroom vanities. Passes food trays, nourishments and snacks. Assists residents in unpacking and storing. Takes temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, height and weight as trained and required. Completes appropriate and required documentation. Attends resident care conference for residents in their direct care. Attends inservice meetings and completes state required education through Relias. Performs other duties as assigned, within limits of training related to resident care when assigned. Acknowledges respect for all individuals, residents/co-workers/public, by accomplishing duties with the courtesy of greetings, a smile and a pleasant demeanor. PHYSICAL DEMANDS - Must be in good physical condition, as job requires much lifting, bending, walking and stretching. Good finger and hand dexterity needed to do a variety of complicated tasks. Visual acuity and accuracy are necessary. SPECIAL DEMANDS - Some initiative and judgement in recognizing symptoms and reporting them accurately. Patience and tact in dealing with residents, families and other staff. Must be able to perform repetitive tasks, many of which involve unpleasant conditions. Ability to organize time and to evaluate priorities. DIRECT SUPERVISOR - The Personal Care Assistant is directly supervised by the Nurse in Charge of the area. QUALIFICATIONS Education – A minimum of grammar school education is essential and a high school education or equivalent if preferred. Training and Experience – Certification as a nursing assistant recognized by the State of Ohio is preferred. Job Knowledge - Knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering simple treatments and related resident care. Understanding of standard techniques to avoid spread of infection and contagious illness. Personal Appearance – Must wear uniform. Neatness is stressed at all times. Hair must be clean and tidy. Shoes worn should be comfortable and allow ease in standing and walking.
