Mamata files election petition against Suvendu | Economic Times

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee moves Calcutta High Court challenging Nandigram results in the recently completed Bengal Assembly elections. The matter will be heard tomorrow.The case will be heard by Justice Kausik Chanda on Friday at 11 am.In a high-decibel fight, Mamata Banerjee lost to Suvendu Adhikari by 1956 votes after the final round of counting concluded. Moving to Calcutta High Court on Friday, Mamata Banerjee filed a petition challenging Suvendu Adhikari’s victory.Terming her defeat as “conspiracy”, on May 2, the day results were declared in Bengal, Mamata Banerjee had said that she will move the court challenging the result.In a close fight, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee finally lost to Suvendu Adhikari in Nandigram by a margin of 1,957 votes.Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy said, “There is a timeframe of one and half months before which one has to move court challenging a result. So, Mamata Banerjee has moved the court within the timeframe.”Banerjee, who fought against her close aide turned arch rival Suvendu Adhikari, had demanded a recount in Nandigram seat. She had claimed that “there is some mischief” and had announced her decision to move court against the result.“How come one constituency has given a verdict that is completely against the mandate of the people of the State? They made some arrangements there. I will move court against the results there,” furious Mamata had said on the day of the poll result.The Nandigram MLA and now leader of Opposition in Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari had fought her own mentor Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram. Despite her loss, she had shaken the Adihikari citadels of Purba Midnapore.BJP state Vice-President Joy Prakash Majumdar said, "I am happy that Mamata Banerjee is moving court. There should be recounting in all 294 seats, not only Nandigram, At least in 100 seats, the TMC has done mischief. So all seats should be recounted."The Trinamool Congress supremo will fight from Bhawanipore Constituency in a by-election, which is her own seat. The candidate from this seat, Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay has vacated the seat for Banerjee. banerjee had won from the Bhawanipore seat in 2016
