Mamata calls for united stir against Centre | Economic Times

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday called upon all Opposition leaders and chief ministers of non-BJP ruled states to come together and fight against the Centre unitedly, especially regarding the three farm laws over which the farmers have been protesting. After a meeting with Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait at state secretariat Nabanna, Mamata said, “On the one hand, we are facing a natural disaster and, on the other hand, we are facing political disaster because of the Central government. We have always supported the farmer’s movement and I was part of the Singur movement. Tikait proposed the formation of an anti-Centre platform in Delhi which will lead the movement against the three farm laws. He has invited us there. When farmers are not accepting the law, they should not impose the laws on farmers.” Mamata called for a united movement of the Opposition parties against the Centre and said “the movement against farm laws must be strengthened”.Before the meeting, Tikait said they would continue to protest over the laws till the BJP-ruled government is in power. Tikait said, “We will continue our movement till the central government repeals the farm laws. Our movement will continue till the Central government is in power –– be it till 2023 or 2024. Our protest and movement will not stop.” He also discussed strategies with Mamata Banerjee to intensify the ongoing farmers’ protest against the farm laws, the sources said.
