Forestry Equipment R&D Section Chief

Tomahawk, WI - The Forestry Equipment R&D Section Chief position leads, directs, and administers all policy, personnel, and budget activities within the Equipment Research and Development Section in the Bureau of Forestry Business Services, Division of Forestry. Programs within the section include: Equipment Research, Development, and Manufacturing, the LeMay Forestry Equipment Center, and Radio Operations. Within these programs this position provides leadership and direction for the design, fabrication and maintenance of a heavy equipment fleet of over 195 vehicles and a $1.9M annual budget; the LeMay Forestry Center that provides a full suite of wildland fire equipment to the WI DNR and over 500 partner fire departments with $700K in annual sales; and the statewide radio communications program that is integral to the forest fire management program and law enforcement programs within the department. While located within the Forestry Division, the radio communication program serves all functions within the Department of Natural Resources (Forestry, Law Enforcement, Parks, Wildlife, etc.). The system currently consists of 1,800 communication devices and 100 tower sites, valued at over $20.5 million. This position functions as the primarily liaison to the Division of State Patrol and is responsible for the joint management of the statewide radio communications network. Section chief positions within the Division of Forestry are expected to perform their duties in service to the entire division and with the full scope of the Forestry program in mind. This position provides leadership and management to the section, talent development and supervision, and program performance management. This position serves as the thought leader for the Division in wildland fire equipment research and development needs, through leadership, innovation, adaptation, best practices, program communications, and partnerships. This position serves on management teams and is expected to be an active contributor. Customer and partner groups may include forestry and non-forestry DNR staff, citizens, citizen groups, industry leaders, and governmental and educational representatives.
