Berkeley Lab - California - Berkeley Lab’s Energy Storage & Distributed Resources Division (ESDR) is looking for a Battery Chemist Postdoctoral Fellow! In this role, you will carry out multidisciplinary battery research. This is an excellent opportunity for a talented researcher who has experience with Li-ion batteries and solid-state lithium metal batteries. What You Will Do: Evaluate inorganic solid electrolytes against Li metal and high voltage cathodes. Carry out synthesis of inorganic solid electrolyte materials for solid state Li metal batteries. Develop cell assembly and testing procedures for symmetric Li//Li and Li/cathode cells. Identify and employ Synchrotron X-ray techniques to develop mechanistic understanding of the limitations at the material and/or cell level. Design and execute experiments, analyze and interpret results. Prepare reports, manuscripts and presentations, and present progress at meetings. Coordinate and collaborate research in the team of various scientific backgrounds. What is Required: A recent Ph.D. in Materials Science, Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field. Experience with inorganic solid electrolytes and Li metal. Experience with solid-state cell assembly. Knowledge of material systems/chemistry and lithium metal batteries. Ability to work independently towards project goals and think mechanistically to conceive ideas and design experiments.
