How the Regional Rapid Transit System will solve connectivity trouble for NCR residents | Economic Times

India's first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) high-speed rail corridor will soon make your travel from Delhi to Meerut much easier. With a design speed of 180kmph and operational speed of 160kmph, the RRTS aims to provide regional connectivity to NCR.82km long, and with 24 stations including two depots at Duhai and Modipuram, trains will cover the distance between Delhi to Meerut in less than an hour. The priority sectionThe 17km long priority section between Sahibabad to Duhai of Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor is scheduled for commissioning by 2023. Once operational, it will help residents of NCR (Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar and Duhai) connect to the Delhi Metro. This priority section will have four stations: Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar and Duhai. Civil construction of the viaduct and these four stations have begun. The full corridor is scheduled to be operational by 2025.Providing connectivityThe RRTS corridor will be integrated with other modes of public transport like Metro Stations, ISBTs, Indian Railways Stations and Airports using skywalks and foot over bridges. As per the plans, the RRTS corridor will be integrated with Delhi Metro at three points - Sarai Kale Khan, Anand Vihar and New Ashok Nagar. Also for a smooth passage, the RRTS stations will be connected with Sarai Kale Khan Railway Station, Sarai Kale Khan ISBT, Anand Vihar Railway Station, Anand Vihar ISBT and Kaushambi Bus Terminal. Besides connectivity, the green transport model of Delhi-Meerut RRTS will help reduce air pollution. How it will lookThe outer body of the lightweight, 'Made-in-India' trains will be made of radiating stainless steel and will be fully air-conditioned. Each coach of the trains will have six automatic plug-in type wide doors, three on each side (Business Class will have four such doors, two on each side) for ease of access and exit. The RRTS trains will have transverse 2x2 seating with adequate legroom, optimized aisle width with grab handles and grab poles for standing passengers, overhead luggage rack, mobile/laptop charging sockets and onboard Wi-Fi among other commuter-centric features. Each train will have one coach reserve for women and a business class coach as well.
