Public Health Foundation Enterprises, In - Oakland, CA - The epidemiologist will contribute to Alameda County Public Health Departments COVID-19 response. Under general direction, the incumbent will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop, implement, and communicate results of COVID-19 incidence and death surveillance; characterize high-risk population density of Alameda County; and develop and implement methods to monitor COVID-19 introductions from outside of Alameda County. Funding for this position is secured through March 2022 and may be extended if additional funding is available. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Develops and conducts iterative evaluation of COVID-19 death surveillance. Develops and implements surveillance and analysis plans for COVID-19 incidence and death. As necessary, trains relevant parties in new data collection methods to support improved surveillance. Develops and implements methods to monitor COVID-19 introductions from connected jurisdictions (i.e., neighboring counties, states; including air travel). Describes population density and high-risk population density in Alameda County (i.e. population of >65 yrs., proportion of population with underlying conditions, households with limited English fluency, healthcare seeking behavior, populations without insurance and below poverty level). Prepares presentations and reports to communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders. Communicates results and recommendations to stakeholders orally and in writing. Works collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team of epidemiologists, laboratorians, clinicians, and policy makers in the department, division, or other organizations to support COVID-19 response. Completes other assigned COVID-19 surveillance and mitigation activities as necessary. JOB QUALIFICATIONS The ideal candidate will have experience conducting and evaluating infectious disease and/or death surveillance in a public health or health care setting, identifying and monitoring disease introductions from neighboring areas, using mapping tools to communicate population characteristics of geographical regions, using statistical software to conduct analysis, and interpreting and communicating analysis results. Candidates should have experience with epidemiologic methods and preparing oral presentations and written reports, and have the ability to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team and meet project deadlines. Education/Experience Masters degree in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, demography, or related field, and the equivalent of two years full-time, professional-level epidemiology or related experience preferably in a public health or health care delivery setting. Two years of additional relevant work experience may be substituted for the Masters degree. Writing code to clean, process, and analyze data using statistical software (R, SAS, and/or SQL preferred). Identifying and collecting valid and reliable quantitative and qualitative data and information.
