The Computational Oncology team has expertise in production informatics, bioinformatics and data science and works with our oncology drug project teams throughout the discovery pipeline, from new target discovery to late stage clinical trials. There exists an opportunity for a hardworking bioinformatician with expertise in the genomics of cancer to become part of a team in the AstraZeneca Early Computational Oncology Production Bioinformatics team. The primary focus of this role is in the area of Early Oncology Discovery, including in-vivo and in-vitro data strategy implementation. Continuous support and training will be provided for the individual to develop deep specialist knowledge and skill set in the areas of focus. Main Duties and Responsibilities There is an exciting opportunity for a hardworking and motivated bioinformatician, eager to bring big and heterogeneous biological data together in new ways, to join the group as a Senior Scientist. In this role you will: Contribute to Early Oncology Discovery data strategy and its implementation, with focus on Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR) data Manage, analyze, and deliver data from heterogeneous experiments, such as in-vitro pharmacology and functional genomics Design and apply innovative computational/statistical algorithms and visualizations to: Generate meaningful biological insight from genomic and other discovery data. Build and steer development of small prototype analysis scripts and programs to the Bioinformatics for the Bench suite of web-based UI tools to reach wide, non-technical audiences Validate the quality of the datasets using various tools to assess the correctness of the results Troubleshoot data quality issues by collaborating with Lab and other personnel Develop, test, and support automated data analysis tools and pipelines Assist with developing requirements for internal software and database development Build and maintain high level of experience with the team's software and IT technologies Work collaboratively with scientists and outside collaborators to cultivate, process, and analyze genomic information Essential Requirements Relevant degree: Bioinformatics / Computational biology Computer Science / Engineering Biostatistics, Mathematical modeling and human disease Minimum of 5 years of applied experience in genomics / bioinformatics data analysis Python and R programming expertise in a Unix environment with track record of contributions to open source projects on platforms such as GitHub Experience in Unix, SQL databases, and REST APIs Experience in taking experimental scripts to production like environments and exposing to non-informaticians via web UIs (e.g. R Shiny, Python Dash) Understanding of data and metadata capture and sharing via databases Cloud computing, and High-Performance Computing (HPC) Skilled in effective requirements gathering, communication and key messaging of complex data to non-experts Effective contributions to collaborative projects / products involving cross-disciplinary and global teams Desirable: Well networked within external bioinformatics and NGS communities An understanding of the contribution of bioinformatics to drug discovery Awareness of machine learning, graph modeling, Bayesian analytics or other non-traditional approaches to model biological data Next Steps - Apply today!
