Active Covid cases in Maha above govt projections | Economic Times

The total Covid caseload of the state rose to 29.5 lakh on Saturday, and the total fatalities stood at 55,656.BMC additional commissioner Suresh Kakani said that although cases in the city were over 9,000, the mortality is still low. “With 27 deaths, the mortality rate for the day is less than 0.27. We are alert. All our major hospitals have been told to make more beds available for Covid care and take note of the time taken from appearance of symptoms to admission and work on it,” he said. The total active cases in the state on Saturday were way ahead of the projections made by the public health department 10 days ago. As per the projections circulated by the department on March 23, the state was to have 28.4 lakh cases as on April 4,64,613 deaths and just over 3 lakh active cases. The state’s total caseload as on April 03 was 29.5 lakh, and the active cases have crossed the 4 lakh mark. The only positive is that the fatalities are way below the projected numbers. “These projections were based on the case fatality rate (CFR) and the weekly growth rate at that time. Since the growth rate is increasing due to the increase in testing, CFR is on the decline,” said a senior official.81895070The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) added 15,989 cases and 58 deaths on Saturday, the highest in the state. The total cases in the region touched 9.3 lakh and fatalities stood at 20,578.In the Kalyan-Dombivli belt, the highest-ever tally of 1,244 cases and four deaths were registered on Saturday. A health official from KDMC said, “Even though the cases are rising in the twin city, the relieving thing is that we have maintained a low 1.5% death rate of patients.”81895075Meanwhile, state health minister Rajesh Tope has sent Nashik civil surgeon Dr Ratna Raokhande on compulsory leave on the request of district guardian minister Chhagan Bhujbal who was unhappy with Raokhande’s work in dealing with the Covid situation in Nashik.81895078
