York General Health Care - York, NE - RN, Oncology - RPT - No Weekends or Nights! This position is responsible for assessing and evaluating patient's responses to health problems, identifying nursing care needs, planning and providing nursing interventions, evaluating patient responses to nursing interventions and revising the plan of care accordingly. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 1. Utilizes the nursing process in assessing and evaluating patient needs and problems, planning and implementing nursing care, evaluating patient response and progress toward outcomes and revising the plan of care accordingly. 2. Provides direct patient care and implements physicians orders (administers chemotherapy, medications, treatments, IV therapy; meets needs for hygiene, nutrition, positioning and activity; applies other interventions appropriate to patient and SO needs. 3. Documents assessments, evaluations and interventions; provides other verbal, written and automated communication needed. 4. Coordinates Oncologists visits in SPC, maintains Physician orders for patient care between visits. 5. Assesses readiness and need for patient/SO education including discharge planning needs; provides appropriate teaching and support. 6. Communicates and collaborates with the physician and other health care providers to meet patient needs; utilizes lab results, progress notes and other parts of the medical record to keep informed regarding patient condition. 7. Works with patients and families as advocate in decision making regarding therapy vs. Hospice or terminal care. 8. Supports community events through direct participation, (Relay for Life, Survivor Christmas Party, Women's Day Event, Healthfair , etc.) NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Assists in orientation of newly hired nursing staff. 2. Participates in departmental/Hospital-wide efforts and activities as requested. 3. Assists visitors and families as needed/appropriate. 4. Assists in maintaining a clean, orderly environment in Nursing Services. 5. Responds to community requests for information regarding oncology issues. 6. Performs related duties as assigned. At least two years experience is required and must include practice in oncology or a related area. This position also requires good communication skills, leadership and management abilities, and specialized knowledge and expertise in oncology. The incumbent must have graduated from an accredited professional nursing program and be licensed as an RN in the state of Nebraska. This position requires current certification in BLS and ACLS. ONS Chemotherapy provider certificate required. The work of this position is performed in the patient care area and at designated office areas or work stations with occasional activities in other parts of the Hospital. Must be able to endure intermittent periods of standing, intermittent repetitive motions of wrists, shoulders, and be able to stand for intermittent periods of time. Must be able to assist patients with their activites of daily living. Health care workers who prepare or administer hazardous drugs or who work in areas where these drugs are used may be exposed to these agents in the air or on work surfaces, contaminated clothing, medical equipment, patient excreta, and other surfaces. Studies have associated workplace exposures to hazardous drugs with health effects such as skin rashes and adverse reproductive outcomes (including infertility, spontaneous abortions, and congenital malformations) and possibly leukemia and other cancers. The health risk is influenced by the extent of the exposure and the potency and toxicity of the hazardous drug. Due to these risks, all Oncology nursing staff are required to be fitted annually for a N-95 mask and filtered respirator.
