Development Officer

Presbyterian Childrens Homes and Services - Houston, TX - The primary role of the Development Officer serving the Houston Region is to secure major gifts from individuals and churches. This position does not carry supervision responsibilities. Essential Job Functions: Maximizing philanthropic support from individuals and churches located in the Houston Region and records all efforts in Raiser's Edge. Hosts monthly gatherings to attract table hosts for an annual luncheon, teaches adult education courses and provides church-related moments for mission. Cultivates and solicits endowment gifts, planned gifts and capital campaign gifts. Coordinates promotion and collection of in-kind donations, primarily Back-to-School Supplies and Angel Tree Christmas Gifts. Nurtures relationships with program staff members, pastors, church leaders, volunteers and Ambassadors. Meets or exceeds annual fundraising goals for one's assigned region and monitors progress towards stated goals using the weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual gift reports prepared by central staff in Austin. Participates in weekly Development Officer conference calls. Working Conditions: Pending availability of an assigned office, this position may be allowed to work from home. Development activities are carried out in a variety of settings. Some functions are performed in an office environment while others occur in a donor's home or place of business. Travel is required to meet with the position's direct supervisor, to attend development department planning retreats, and to meet with donors. There is a need to lift, move or transport boxes of development materials on occasion that may weigh up to 40 lbs. A college degree and 3-5 years of successful fundraising experience is preferred. Documented success in the areas of major gifts, planned gifts, and special events is strongly preferred. CFRE certification is desirable, but not required. Other Requirements: Must hold a valid driver's license, have and maintain a risk-free driving record. Must be willing to undergo initial and periodic child abuse/neglect, criminal history, sexual offender, and child care/elder care disqualification list screenings. As requested, must submit fingerprints for review by the state of your employment and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Must undergo a pre-employment drug screen and a pre-employment physical with the results showing no evidence of communicable disease.
