We are seeking a highly motivated in vivo pharmacologist with a strong background generating and using patient-derived models (PDX) of cancer in an industry setting to lead the PDX model team at AstraZeneca, Waltham MA. Key Responsibilities: Provide both strategic and hands-on leadership of the PDX model capability build within the Oncology In Vivo Bioscience team. Lead a team to establish banks of "study-ready" tumor fragments for routine use by project teams, including models representing aggressive cancers from patients progressing on therapies. Work with external providers, clinical researchers and government-sponsored respositories to aggressively grow our internal model bank. Evaluate emerging technologies to enable routine PDX model development from limited tissue biopsies, including FNAs. Manage all aspects of model characterization, and work with a cross-discipline global team to devise solutions for data storage and retrieval to enable broad use across the oncology R&D organization. Drive the strategy for ex vivo drug testing in PDX models. Support the growth of our early portfolio by using PDX models to identify new drug targets Minimum Requirements: PhD with a minimum of 7 years relevant experience, including experience in Biopharma. Demonstrated expertise generating and working with PDX models, including PK/PD, efficacy and biomarker studies to inform patient selection strategies, dose and schedule optimization, and identify rationale drug combinations. Broad experience developing and working with complex in vivo models, including surgical and humanized models of cancer. Strong track record of working across boundaries to deliver common goals. Ability to lead from the bench in problem solving and the development of innovative solutions. Excellent communication and presentation skills A proven track record of high productivity and scientific publications in peer reviewed journals. AstraZeneca is an equal opportunity employer.
