M&M names more women in leadership roles | Economic Times

In a bid to increase gender diversity across functions, utility vehicle and tractor manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra has appointed several women in leadership positions. These leaders include Sheebu David, executive vice president (corporate HR); Asha Kharga, chief customer and brand officer; Nidhi Seksaria, chief risk officer; Suman Mishra, chief executive of Mahindra Electric; and Neha Anand, head of digital marketing.“As an organisation, improving diversity and fostering inclusivity is an important charter for us,” Group HR head Ruzbeh Irani said. All these appointments, he said, were on merit.“All our women leaders, whether new hires or moves from within the company, have been chosen purely based on their competence, their domain expertise and showcase our leadership behaviours,” Irani said.Currently, more than 30% of the workforce at M&M’s group corporate office is women. In fact, 70% of the new hires in the corporate office last year were women.“We are committed to improving overall diversity in the automotive and farm sector. Hiring women in the workforce is around 15%. We have also seen encouraging results in recruiting women at the shop floor, an initiative that we started few years ago,” said Irani. The leaders hired recently, both men and women, bring in an outside perspective and diversity of thought, he said. The attrition rate at Mahindra, he said, was similar to the market average.K Sudarshan, managing partner at executive search firm EMA Partners, said historically in manufacturing and industrial companies, gender equality had been abysmally low.Companies are now making a conscious effort to bring in a balance of gender diversity, he said. "Women do bring in a different thought process and perspective. It’s also difficult in these competitive times to cultivate leadership talent for long term. That's why companies are looking outside for ready-made talent.”Mahindra, which is in the middle of a restructuring including shedding some jobs and shutting certain departments and functions, has been reallocating senior management professionals to different businesses and functions. Also with a new leadership taking charge — Anish Shah took over as managing director and chief executive from Pawan Goenka on April 1 — Mahindra is seeing a host of job rotations, too. 85332837
