Infosys CEO summoned over I-T portal glitches | Economic Times

Bengaluru: The Ministry of Finance has summoned Infosys CEO Salil Parekh to meet with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday after the income tax e-filing website built by the company became inaccessible due to “emergency maintenance” starting Saturday.The I-T e-filing portal, which went live on June 7, has been plagued with technical glitches since the day it was launched, drawing the ire of the finance ministry as well as taxpayers who have voiced their concerns on social networks.“The Ministry of Finance has summoned Sh(ri) Salil Parekh, MD & CEO at Infosys, on 23/08/2021 to explain to hon'ble FM as to why even after 2.5 months since launch of (the) new e-filing portal, glitches in the portal have not been resolved. In fact, since 21/08/2021 the portal itself is not available,” the Income Tax department said on Twitter on Sunday.Infosys had in June said that it would resolve all issues within a few weeks time, and again reiterated its commitment to fixing issues in a timely manner during its 40th annual general meeting held on June 19.On Saturday, Infosys had tweeted that the I-T portal was inaccessible due to “planned maintenance”. The following day, the company again tweeted that the portal continues to be under “emergency maintenance” and it would post an update when the portal would be available for use again.“The Income Tax India portal continues to be under emergency maintenance. We will post an update once the portal is available again for taxpayers. We regret the inconvenience,” Infosys said from its Infosys India Business handle on Twitter on Sunday.Infosys did not respond to ET’s queries until the publishing of this story.Finance Minister Sitharaman had soon after the portal went live tweeted on June 8 to the company and its chairman Nandan Nilekani pointing to complaints from several users on her Twitter timeline regarding glitches in the e-filing portal.Nilekani had responded to the minister stating that the company had observed some day-one technical issues and had regretted the inconvenience caused to the taxpayers.
