QC Associate

Prysmian Group - Lexington, SC - Purpose of Position (What is the principle purpose of your job? What must it accomplish?) To perform quality control activities to ensure conformance to Division standards in the coloring, ribbonizing, buffering, jacketing, stranding, and Premises for the efficient, cost effective, and timely production and shipment of Division Products to satisfy customer demands and Division Standards with regard to quality, features, delivery dares, and product performance. Requirements: Education: High School Diploma, or equivalent Demonstrated ability to read, write, and perform basic math functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages. Must achieve required hours of OJT/peer training and achieve company benchmarks on physical skill test on equipment used and written process knowledge test(s) after completion of training Experience: Previous production or materials experience in an electronics manufacturing environment is required. Experience in inspection, testing, and auditing of multiple processes required. Ability to read, comprehends, interpret, and utilize facility documentation process (such as SOPs, FODs, FOPs, QPs, IPs, specifications, and other internal and external official documentation). Ability to utilize measuring equipment (micrometers, OTDRs, etc.) and understand basic test and measurement processes. Must be able to utilize and safely operate hand tools (hammer, screwdriver, knives, work scissors, dikes, and razors), nail guns and torches. Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and ability to communicate effectively in a work group/team environment with regard to all job requirements, functions, and duties. Primary Duties The incumbent is required to perform tests, inspections, of one or more of the following functions. Also provides technical quality expertise in one or more of the following functions: Buffering Inspection - All tubes manufactured from the buffering lines shall be inspected for dimensional compliance to design criteria and customer requirements. To prepare fibers for testing, use wire cutters (with preset cutting depth) cut off approximately 25 cm of buffer tube and slide away from fibers. Clean fibers and test. Check for required amount of fibers and color, Measure for attenuation at the appropriate wavelength. Final Inspection - All Cables manufactured from the Jacketing lines shall be inspected for dimensional compliance to design criteria and customer requirements. Using the pipe cutter cut through the jacket/armor. Peel the outer jacket/armor away from the cable. Save the split jacket samples for jacket dimension tests. Mark each end to identify the end of the cable it was taken from, i.e. ISE or OSE. Using a pair of needle nose pliers, grip a ripcord and pull longitudinally away from the end of the cable until the desired length has been slit. Repeat the process using the second ripcord. In-Process Inspection for Ribbon Tubes - All Ribbon tubes manufactured from the Ribbon buffering lines shall be inspected for dimensional compliance to design criteria and customer requirements. Using wire cutters with preset cutting depth cut off approximately 1 meter of buffer tube and slide away from fibers. Wipe off excess grease using Kimwipes, (or generic substitute), D-Gel, and alcohol. Using the OASYS System, or OTDR, test all fibers for attenuation, length and discontinuities. Physical Conditions (Describe briefly the physical Conditions under which the job functions.) Heat which may be potentially injurious, dangerous, or hazardous. Cold which may cause a discomfort level. Noise which may be potentially injurious, dangerous, or hazardous Dust which may cause a discomfort level. Vibrations which may cause a discomfort level. Light intensity which may be potentially injurious, dangerous, or hazardous due to laser exposure. Wetness which may cause a discomfort level. Toxic agents which may be potentially injurious, dangerous, or hazardous Humidity which may cause a discomfort level. Disease which may cause a discomfort level. Machinery and / or tools which may be potentially injurious, dangerous, or hazardous. Electrical currents which may be potentially injurious, dangerous, or hazardous. Laser light which may be potentially injurious, dangerous, or hazardous. Must wear safety shoes and safety glasses at all times. V. Physical Characteristics (Describe briefly the physical characteristics which are required for performance of the job. Consider the frequency with which these conditions exist, where possible.) Stooping (up to 50 Ibs.) Pushing / pulling (up to 2,000 Ibs.) Crouching/Crawling Color Perception & Discrimination (100%) - must pass Munsell color blind test.
